Welcome to my New Online Home
I’m so excited to be relaunching my counseling practice and would love the opportunity to reintroduce myself to those of you I haven’t seen in awhile and introduce myself to those of you who are new here! My name’s Rebecca and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Texas.
Clinical Social Work is a specialty practice area of the broader field of Social Work. LCSWs assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent mental illness, emotional, and other behavioral disturbances. LCSWs may refer to themselves as psychotherapists, counselors, or therapists. I tend to use these terms interchangeably.
I received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Harding University (Go Bisons!) and a Master of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!). Harding is a Christian university and I love that I received my undergrad degree there because I was able to learn in an environment that was interested in teaching the connections between faith and social work. Similarly, I’m incredibly grateful to have received my Master’s degree from LSU because it challenged me to think critically and deeply value people who are different from me. I think having this varied education has positioned me to uniquely view my field and work.
Like most social workers, I always wanted to be a helper. When I was young, I didn’t know what that would look like, but I knew I loved helping people. Social Work has provided the framework to help in ways I never dreamed possible. I’ve learned that being a helper isn’t always about showing someone the way; more often than not, it’s about growing a relationship that allows the client to gain confidence and develop self-awareness so she can choose her own way. What a gift to be able to walk alongside women and use my influence to educate, inspire, guide and empower.
Over my career, I’ve had the honor of working with so many interesting, determined, courageous people. My desire has always been to show up authentically in every setting of which I’ve been a part. I’ve been a case manager for clients with HIV and AIDS, a medical social worker for patients in hospice care and as a psychotherapist helping clients work through a variety of mental and emotional health concerns. What has always amazed me, no matter the setting of my work, is the resiliency of the human spirit.
I’m married to my husband, Heath, of 20 years and I’m biased, but I think I have two of the best sons EVER. We live outside Houston, Texas with our favorite cocker spaniel, Molly. We love spending time together and with friends. We’re active in a local church and can’t imagine life without our faith community. I love to talk about the connections between mental health and faith, as well as any opportunity for Bible teaching. I love to read, especially memoir and self-improvement. I’m also a very devoted fan of napping and soft blankets.
I’m incredibly excited to be relaunching my private practice and look forward to building a community here and learning and growing together. All the fun and interaction is happening over on Instagram and Facebook, so stop by and check it out!
